About the maker
Nick Rees (b. 1949, Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK) is a studio potter who began his career in 1972 as an apprentice to John Leach at Muchelney Pottery. Aside from a brief three-month period working with Brian Newman at Aller Pottery in 1976, he remained at Muchelney for 46 years, retiring in July 2018.
During his time at Muchelney, Nic produced the catalogue range of oven-to-tableware while developing his own signed work, exploring surface detail and creating distinctive pieces sold through various galleries, including a permanent selection at the John Leach Gallery. In 2009, he began experimenting with oxidised firing in an electric kiln, which introduced new possibilities and added depth to his individual work.
He continues to create unique pots from his home studio in Somerset, combining decades of experience in traditional stoneware with ongoing experimentation.
